Ummagma

Formed in Moscow in 2003, Ummagma simultaneously released two debut albums in 2012. Since that time, Ummagma has worked with several music icons, including A.R.Kane, Dean Garcia (Curve), Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins), Malcolm Holmes (OMD) and Graham Bonnar (Swervedriver, The Brian Jonestown Massacre). Ummagma won the 2013 Alternative Eurovision on Britain's Amazing Radio (representing Ukraine from amongst 23 countries) and as received several independent music video awards. Ummagma is a Canadian-Ukrainian duo comprised of Shauna McLarnon and Alexander Kretov. Known for their dreamy uplifting soundscapes and ethereal vocals, their lush melodic gems convey the early 4AD spirit in a unique dreampop, electronic, shoegaze & ambient mix. Creation Records co-founder Joe Foster calls this ''really very cosmic music, made of stardust'', while 4AD's seminal A.R.Kane, with whom Ummagma released the ‘Winter Tale’ EP, refers to Ummagma’s ''sound, emotion and clean cool space''. Clash Magazine says Ummagma "explores otherworldly climes, matching heavenly vocals to arrangements as complex as they are hopelessly beautiful". Rolling Stone says this is "a full kaleidoscope of sounds, harmonies and musical instruments". Brooklyn Vegan calls this "ethereal pop indebted to Cocteau Twins and much of the rest of 4AD’s 80s output" and The Wire Magazine says "Ummagma create music of otherworldly delicacy. This is cosmic yet introspective dreampop".
